Consumers are increasingly moving from television and cinema multiplex to Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming platforms and these platforms has replaced the traditional television broadcasters as the primary source of screen-based entertainment by replacing planned broadcasts with on-demand programming. OTT is a service where video content is created customized, sold and distributed online. OTT platform users can access OTT content on different devices with Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube and HBO Max considered to be the key OTT players (according to Statista)

according to a report, as of, 2024, there are 45 crore OTT subscribers in India




Disney+Hotstar is the top OTT platform with 14 crores subscribers, followed by Amazon Prime Video (6 crores) and Netflix (4 crores). Fourth on the list is ZEE5 with 3.7 crores subscribers, followed by SonyLIV (2.5 crores).

In India, the number of subscribers of over-the-top (OTT) players will reach 466 million by 2023. This projection is based on a report by Media Partners Asia (MPA). The report also said that the OTT market in India will be worth $5 billion by 2023. The primary drivers for this growth are increasing broadband penetration, affordability of data plans, and rising smartphone penetration.

  • During the same duration, other revenue is followed by Pay-per-view (USD 0.35 billion), Video Downloads (USD 0.38 billion), and Video Streaming (USD 2.02 billion).

These OTT platforms are accessed by the demographic which is the mixture of all age population



In May 2024, male and female users of ottplay.com were 66.7% and 33.3%, respectively.
